JOURNEY

IMAGES

ADD

JOURNEY

Passengers are picked up from their hotels in El Calafate (at 9.00 a. m for the morning expeditions and at 4.00 p.m. for the afternoon expeditions).

We travel 1 km along Provincial Route 15 until we reach Estancia Huyliche (Huyliche Ranch). After seeing the ranch´s compounds, we go into the “Estancia 25 de Mayo” Natural Reserve.

First stop: an old ranch house made of stones where The Villalba —the first family who inhabited the Ranch- used to live. There will be an informative talk about the history of the ranches in the Patagonia:

their settlers, El Calafate and Estancia 25 de Mayo´s (25 de Mayo Ranch) beginnings, the region´s production situation, and the later acquisition of the ranch by the Ariztizábal family.

After enjoying said explanation, we go on travelling to our second stop: La Sección, a genuine ranch house situated within the immensity of Patagonia. Here, the native animals watching in the Cerro 25 de Mayo (25 de Mayo Hill) begins. This is a fantastic moment for photography lovers, who will be able to make use of the binoculars and the telescope provided by the SAFARI EXPERIENCE (there are also a tripod, telephoto lenses and other accessories for digital photography available for passengers with Nikon-compatible cameras).

Third stop: before the exuberant fauna. Passengers will leave the vehicle and walk to approach the

guanacos´ herds. Tourists are assured the center stage when interacting with native animals.

After travelling 4 km more, we arrive at our fourth stop: the fossilized oysters’ deposit. This is the opportunity of admiring this wall of oysters which fossilized 23 million years ago. Passengers are given a paleontology and geology explanation about the place so that they can understand that the desert where they are standing has been many times covered by the ocean.

We immediately continue travelling southwards, approach the Chilean border, and arrive at our fifth stop:

the Mirador del Centinela, a 1,500 m.a.s.l. hill from where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the endless basalt walls, the Cerro Centinela and the Cerro de los Baguales; these hills set the South border between Argentina and Chile. Now it is time to relax and feel the breeze and the immensity of the Patagonia.

Then, we return and make a stop in La Sección, where country-style lunch or dinner will be served in a genuine ranch house situated within the immensity of the Patagonia. The house has a spacious living/dining room that overlooks the Cerro 25 de Mayo, two bathrooms, a kitchen and bedrooms.

Finally, passengers are brought back to their hotels in El Calafate.
